What is Majorca really like? Many million tourists visit the island every year and many of them have realised that there is something beyond the beaches, bars and clubs of the popular resorts, but remarkably few ventured very far from their hotels.
The Tourist Board of Tourist guides of the Balearic Islands invite you to discover a place steeped in history and rich in culture. Many of its fascinating customs have been observed since King Jaime I came to conquer the Moors in 1229. The fine palaces in Palma and the vast manor houses in the country still stand as evidence of a very sophisticated society, rich in money and talent, which included internationally respected merchants, cartographers, philosophers and evangelists.
We always try to present to our visitors a light-hearted but factual account of what it is like to live on the island which offers such a choice of excellent restaurants, concerts, historic buildings, fiestas and breathtaking scenery that no-one could ever be bored. Unfortunately, not all the places of interest, customs and events are widely publicised. We’d like to invite you to discover them!
